Hello fam & friends! I am back once again with a recap from an awesome weekend: On Friday, we toured the National Cricket facility that is home to the Brisbane Heat. It was really neat to learn more about the game and see what kind of training the athletes do. Later that day, we went to a bar near our apartment and met some Aussie's that were our age. We convinced them to let us try out their karaoke room, so it was fun singing songs with them! The night ended with some good 'ole McDonalds and a good nights rest. On Saturday, a big group of us made the trek out to North Stradbroke island to spend the day at the beach and to explore. It was one of the best days I've had so far- both weather wise but it was absolutely gorgeous. The pictures below don't do it justice- truly beautiful and so relaxing! We were lucky enough to spot 3 kangaroos that were hanging out near the beach, so checking that off the bucket list was awesome! We were pretty tired after a full day in t...

January 8th-January 11th

Hello loves!  Another busy few days here in Brisbane! Here's a recap of Mon-Thurs this week: Monday was spent at Surfers Paradise Beach on the Gold Coast! We were welcomed with some rain showers and huge waves but fell in love with the expansive beach and made the most of our time there. We had 'class' on the beach and learned about the biomechanics behind riptides, wind, and the physiology behind running on sand. To my surprise you can still get burnt when it's raining and cloudy ;) (sorry mom!) Later in the evening, we checked out a local Irish pub that had awesome live music and $5 drinks. We met a few Aussie's and danced to some country songs! We had the day off on Tuesday (yay!) so we went to the man-made beach again and caught some rays. It ended up being a really nice day, so we all slept in the sun and relaxed a bit. We had a chill night in and enjoyed spending time together! On Wednesday we visited VALD headquarters which is an Australian company which is ...

January 3rd-January 7th....

G'day mates! It has been a busy past few days here in Australia, so let me give you all the run down! The first few days on campus (Australian Catholic University) were super neat. We spent time in the lab learning about sub-max testing and heard from a few of the Professors and researchers that work at the school. There is a pool on campus, so we spent our lunch time laying out in the sun and catching some rays. However, the trains aren't working to take us to and from campus each day so we've had to take a a bus there which is over an hour long commute there and back. Our Professor decided that were not going to campus this coming week and instead are going to the beach to learn about fluid mechanics and are touring some sports medicine facilities! We also went on a guided tour around Brisbane, which was interesting. It was cool to learn about some of the history, but it wasn't all that helpful in terms of getting to see more of the city. We did however, get to see t...

G'day Mates! Mak is officially down under! The long awaited blog post has arrived! Big shoutout to Kristi, Karl, and the Thor fam for setting this page up <3!! Since I missed a few days, I figured I'd summarize the travel day along with our first actual day of school! Travel Day(s):  It quite literally took planes, trains, and automobiles to get to our apartment (no seriously 2 planes, 2 trains, 3 buses, almost 2 miles of walking with luggage in the humidity and rain). However, the 20+ hours of travel went smoothly and I'm grateful to be here! Since we were flying over New Years, we skipped January 1st, so our first full day was the 2nd. We spent the majority of the day checking out the city, getting settled in at our apartment, and went out for a nice dinner down by the river. The jet-lag hit around 8pm, so everyone crashed pretty early.  Here's a picture of my room! Please excuse the mess I have not had time to clean hehe On our first day of school (Jan 3rd) we to...
