January 3rd-January 7th....

G'day mates! It has been a busy past few days here in Australia, so let me give you all the run down!

The first few days on campus (Australian Catholic University) were super neat. We spent time in the lab learning about sub-max testing and heard from a few of the Professors and researchers that work at the school. There is a pool on campus, so we spent our lunch time laying out in the sun and catching some rays. However, the trains aren't working to take us to and from campus each day so we've had to take a a bus there which is over an hour long commute there and back. Our Professor decided that were not going to campus this coming week and instead are going to the beach to learn about fluid mechanics and are touring some sports medicine facilities!

We also went on a guided tour around Brisbane, which was interesting. It was cool to learn about some of the history, but it wasn't all that helpful in terms of getting to see more of the city. We did however, get to see the botanical gardens which were super pretty and very luscious.

We decided to check out the night life in the city Friday and Saturday and had an absolute blast. We found a spot with tons of fun bars and great music and spent most of those nights dancing and meeting some Aussie's. On Sunday afternoon we went to our Professors apartment and spent the day swimming in their pool and eating some pizza which was super fun and relaxing!

Sadly, the weather hasn't been totally ideal since we've gotten here. While it is 10x better than cold MN, we've yet to have a day full of sun and warm temps. Hopefully we will have a few days to catch some rays!

I have noticed numerous differences from the states, some of which include different slang terms (rubbish=trash, thongs=flip slops, lift=elevator, etc). Not only do Aussie's drive on the side of the road, they also walk on the left side of the sidewalk which has taken some getting used to. Additionally, most stores and restaurants close around 5-6pm on the weekends because most people go out and enjoy their evenings. Their culture is a strong representation of work-life balance and prioritizes social events.

That's all for now! We're headed to surfers paradise beach on the gold coast tomorrow so I'll make sure to take some pictures for my next post!

Love and miss you all!
